TA sleep disorder
is a disruptive pattern of sleep that may include difficulty
falling or staying asleep, falling asleep at inappropriate
times, or abnormal behaviors, associated with sleep. Sixty
percent of adults have sleep problems a few nights a week
or more.
Snoring may be a sign
of a sleep disorder called sleep apnea. Sleep apnea
is a potentially serious sleep disorder because sufferers
may intermittently stop breathing while they are sleeping.
This condition can lead to more serious problems like
hypertension, a heart attack or a stroke.
Insomnia is another sleep
disorder which affects approximately 22 million adults.
Insomnia inhibits a person's ability to fall and stay
asleep. This disorder can be ongoing and/or recurring.
Insomnia is one of the most common sleep disorders
and can be caused by a variety of problems.
Narcolepsy is a disabling
illness affecting more than 1 in 2000 Americans. The
disease is principally characterized by a permanent
and overwhelming feeling of sleepiness and fatigue.
Other symptoms involve abnormalities of dreaming sleep,
such as dream-0like hallucinations and finding oneself
physically weak or paralyzed for a few seconds. Narcoleptics
can also suffer from other forms of sleep disorders.
